Itinerary for 3 Days Desert Tour from Fes to Merzouga

We will pick you up from your Fes accommodation at 8:00 AM to begin our journey. Our first stop is Ifrane, a unique town known as “the Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style houses. Nearby, in the cedar forests of Azrou, we’ll stop to watch the playful Barbary apes.

We continue south, passing many traditional Berber villages, and arrive in Midelt, famously called “the apple capital,” where we will stop for lunch. After lunch, we drive into the mountains, enjoying the beautiful landscapes as we make our way to the Todra Gorges. You will have dinner and spend the night here in a local guesthouse.

After breakfast, you’ll have time for a short walk along the riverbank within the massive Todra Gorges. From there, we continue our drive, passing through more Berber villages and getting a close look at the local way of life.

We will pass through Tinjdad and along the road, you may spot “khettarat,” which are ancient underground water channels used for irrigation. In the afternoon, we arrive at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. You’ll be welcomed with a glass of tea before starting your sunset camel ride into the desert to reach your luxury camp for the night.

We recommend waking up early to watch the incredible sunrise over the sand dunes. After breakfast, you will ride your camel back to meet your driver. This final day of your 3-day trip from Fes to Merzouga takes us north.

We will stop in Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils, where you can see how they are crafted into various artifacts. We then drive along the Ziz Valley, a striking oasis of palm groves.

We will cross the Middle Atlas Mountains again, stopping one more time in Midelt for lunch. We arrive back in Fes by the late afternoon, where your driver will drop you off at your riad.
